How do I create a zip file?

Zip is a file compression/archive format, commonly used on the web for uploading, emailing, and transferring files. Creating a zip version of a file does not modify the original file at all.

Mac OSX users

Mac OSX has a built-in zip utility.

* In the Finder, control-click on the file you want to zip.
* In the popup menu, select "Create archive of..."
* A zip of the original file will be created in that folder, with ".zip" added to the filename.

Windows users

Newer Windows versions also have a built-in zip utility.

* Right-click on the file that you want to zip.
* In the popup menu, select "Send to..." and then "Compressed (zipped) Folder"
* A "zip folder" version of the original file will be created in the same folder as the original file.

You may also use commercial software like WinZip or shareware like GnuWin32 to create zips.
